Silent cruising
All the speed of a motoryacht, but smooth serenity of a sailing yacht; Heesen’s newly-launched 50 m hybrid superyacht Orion brings together powerful engines and whisper-quiet cruising, marrying the best of both worlds.
Delivered in June 2025 as the third launch from Heesen’s 50m Fast Displacement Hull Form aluminium series, Orion stands out with its cutting-edge hybrid propulsion system. At up to ten knots, the yacht can cruise silently while consuming just 45 litres of diesel per hourly; nearly half the fuel she consumes in pure diesel mode.
Performance that thinks of planet
Under the hood, twin MTU 12V 2000 M61 engines deliver a top speed of 16.3 knots and a transatlantic range of 3,750 nm at 12 knots, burning about 98 L/h, excluding hotel loads. The hybrid setup not only cuts emissions and vibration, but also ensures a near-silent experience—around 46 dB—ideal for gourmet dining or evening relaxation
Design and comfort
The yacht’s aluminium FDHF hull, blends efficiency with elegance, while a shallow 2.15 m draft opens up shallow anchorages from the Bahamas to the Mediterranean. Exterior styling from Omega Architects features a dramatic vertical bow and vast windows. Inside, Cristiano Gatto’s interior uses over 37 luxurious materials—Italian marble, high-gloss woods and woven leathers—for a refined yet relaxed ambiance.
Whether on diesel or electric, Orion delivers a quiet, luxurious cruise; a new benchmark in sustainable superyachts.
